you didn’t need that roof, did you?

i live at the base of the cajon pass.

the mountain pass you drive through on I-15 to get to the desert to get to the vegas. since it is, indeed, a mountain pass, the high pressure winds the start in utah and push down to southern california are funnelled through this pass at astonishing rates. these are the fabled santa ana winds. the winds that make people cranky, give you miraculous sinus infections complete with 103+ degree fevers, and contribute to our fabled wildfires.

and they’re blowing today. good luck if you’re in a piddly, light car and driving on an east-west freeway around the pass. and also good luck if you have a roof or fence that needs work for the next few days, as you’re likely to lose them in the 80 mph gusts.

  1. Wow. I thought the only thing that blew wind that forcefully was my Flight Commander at my last base.

  2. I don’t miss those winds AT ALL!!! In fact, the little town I grew up in down there (up, in, down–interesting combination)–the town which you know–was referred to as Blowmont rather than Beaumont. Good luck! Hold on.

  3. ha! i thought we called it that because it blows! :)

that’s okay, i grew up in deadlands.
